Official Contest Rules

1. The 2015 Red City Review Books Awards will be open for submissions from April 1st 2015 until August 31st 2015. Submissions must be received by 11:59:59PM on August 31st 2015 in order to be considered. A submission is deemed complete when the online entry form has been filled out, the $75 entry fee has been paid, and the book or manuscript has been submitted either as a digital copy via email to redcityreview@gmail.com, or as a physical copy mailed to 2803 NW 62nd St Seattle WA 98107. MATERIALS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

2. All entrants to the competition will receive a written 250 – 350 word review of their book. This review will be posted on our website and social media pages. The review will be posted within two months of receiving the completed submission. The author is then able to post the review wherever else they see fit, as long as credit to Red City Review is given. To see sample reviews click here. All entrants’ book titles will be listed in the Red City Review Magazine, under the respective category that they entered their book within.

3. Finalists to the Red City Review Book Awards will be announced on November 1st 2015. The results will be posted on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages. The finalists will also be notified by the email address they provided in the entry form. There will be five finalists from each category, for a total of 30 finalists. The one grand prize winner, and five first prize winners will be selected from these 30 finalists. These six winners will be announced on December 1st 2015. The finalists who are not named winners will each receive one free copy of The Red City Review magazine, where their book cover, author name, and book review will be featured within. How this information is presented in the magazine is up to the sole discretion of the Red City Review staff. Additional copies of the magazine must be purchased.

4. There will be only one grand prize winner. The grand prize winner will receive $500. This $500 will be paid by written check, sent to the author’s home address. This is the only monetary amount that will be rewarded to the grand prize winner. The grand prize winner’s book will be featured on the front cover of the Red City Review Magazine, which will be released in early 2016. The front cover design of the magazine will be created by the staff of Red City Review. The grand prize winner will receive one free copy of the magazine. Additional copies of the magazine must be purchased. The author of the grand prize winning book will be interviewed as the featured story of the magazine. If the grand prize winner is unable to be interviewed, or wishes not to be interviewed, a written feature about their book will be written at the sole discretion of the staff at Red City Review. The grand prize winner will receive a roll of 100 high quality stickers, that will indicate the book as the grand prize winner of the Red City Review Book Awards. Design and style of the sticker will be designed by the staff of Red City Review. The grand prize winner has no say in the design or look of the stickers. The grand prize winner will receive one framed certificate, announcing their book as the grand prize winner of the Red City Review Book Awards. The grand prize winning book will be featured on the front page of the Red City Review website, including a link to where the book is for sale. The amount of time that the book will be on the front page of the website is up to the sole discretion of the Red City Review staff, however, it will be listed for at least one calendar month. The grand prize winning book will be featured on the Red City Review Facebook and Twitter pages, in a way that the Red City Review staff feels is appropriate. A press release announcing the book as the grand prize winner will be sent out to our email and mailing lists. The grand prize winner can be from any of the six book categories. Whichever category the grand prize winning book comes from, there will be no first prize winning book in that category.

5. There will be five first prize winners. Each of the first prize winners will receive $125. This $125 will be paid by written check, sent to the author’s home address. This is the only monetary amount that will be rewarded to the first prize winners. The five first prize winners will all be featured within the Red City Review magazine. Their book covers, written book reviews, and a very brief interview with the authors will be included. The content, style, and presentation of the first prize winners within the magazine is up to the sole discretion of the Red City Review staff. Each first prize winner will receive one free copy of the magazine. Additional copies of the magazine must be purchased. The first prize winners will receive a roll of 25 stickers, that will indicate the book as a first prize winner of the Red City Review Book Awards. Design and style of the sticker will be designed by the staff of Red City Review. The first prize winners have no say in the design or look of the stickers. The first prize winners will receive one framed certificate, announcing their book as a first prize winner of the Red City Review Book Awards. The five first prize winning books will be featured on the Red City Review website, including a link to where the books are for sale. The amount of time that the books will be featured on the website is up to the sole discretion of the Red City Review staff. The first prize winning books will be announced on the Red City Review Facebook and Twitter pages, in a way that the Red City Review staff feels is appropriate. A press release announcing the five first prize winning books will be sent out to our email and mailing lists. Whichever category the grand prize winner entered there book into, there will not be a first prize winner for that category. The other five book categories for which the grand prize winner did not come from will be the five categories for which the five first prize winners will be selected from.

6. No other prizes of any kind will be awarded to any entrant besides the information that is listed above.

7. Authors may enter more than one book into the contest if they desire to do so. There will be an entry fee of $75 for each book that is entered. Books can be entered into whichever category the author feels best represents their work. Books do not have to be published in order to be entered. Manuscripts can be entered as long as they are typed, and completed. No hand written material will be accepted.

8. Finalists and winners are selected and judged by the staff of Red City Review. Books are judged off of their written content, overall writing style, and presentation of the material. Both digital copies and physical copies are accepted. Entrants have no say in which books will be selected as finalists or winners.
